When she worked on her books, Cattle Kingns of Texas and Seldom Heard, she traveled over 40,000 miles in the South Texas brush country and ate at 25 Dairy Queens. She got into places no one has ever gotten into. She stared down a battle with breast cancer and she designs jewelry that people line up to buy, because they might not see that one original piece ever again. Hew jewelry is owned by Oprah Winfrey and Elton John. She has raised a family, all stable and neat and still adores her husband after 47 years. She is an avid environmentalist.

She grew up in Hebbronville, Texas. Owns a farm in McKinney and lives in Dallas.
